EVP
EMPLOYER BRAND

Think Sideways

We created an employer brand for a remote-first tech scale-up that leveraged their ability to think differently.

By embracing their quirky spirit and connecting closely with their brand identity, we built a platform that resonates with their global talent community.

The challenge

Aiven, a remote-first tech scale up, needed an employer brand that would connect closely with their emerging brand identity, appeal to an engineering community and leverage their unique, quirky spirit.

The solution

We were inspired by colleague affinity for the unusual symbol of their brand (Crabby!) and created an employer brand for a culture that was unapologetically Aiven and could connect across borders.

“You’ve captured our spirit in a way that we could never have articulated but knew was right the second you presented it. Our people love it. It’s uniquely us. Thank you.”

Jen Szabo, Employer Brand Manager, Aiven

Our approach

Through deep research, we uncovered what makes Aiven’s EVP truly unique. It’s not about what you think, it’s about how you think. From this ‘Think Sideways’ was born.

Working closely with their brand team, we created a full Employer brand that brought their culture to life.

We made sure this came to life in ways that really connect with people, including:

  • A bold and striking visual identity.

  • Videos that give an inside look at life at Aiven. Including a very honest approach to storytelling!

  • Social assets and ready-to-use templates for colleagues and talent managers.

  • A fun and distinctive tone-of-voice guide to capture Aiven’s personality.

  • A culture story that tells the tale of who they are and what they stand for.

The results

Aiven’s colleague engagement peaked during their increased internal communications surrounding the employer brand launch, culminating in a live colleague event to bring together remote talent - ‘Crab Week’ - which was one of the most-talked about in Aiven’s history.
